Erie Drug Kingpin Pleads Guilty to Narcotics, Firearms, and Money Laundering

John Christopher Bisbee, the mastermind behind a large-scale drug trafficking organization in Erie, Pennsylvania, has pleaded guilty to federal charges of narcotics, firearms, and money laundering. The 44-year-old resident faced Senior United States District Judge Kim R. Gibson for Counts Two, Three, Thirteen, and Fourteen of the Superseding Indictment.

Bisbee, who operated in Erie and surrounding areas including New York, was intercepted on a federal wiretap with kilogram quantities of methamphetamine. The investigation revealed that he imported dozens of kilograms of the drug at a time from an Atlanta source, packaging it for distribution to his network.

In June 2020, law enforcement executed a search warrant at Bisbee’s residence, where they seized two handguns and over 100 rounds of ammunition. Despite being prohibited from possessing firearms due to previous convictions, Bisbee admitted to using them in furtherance of the drug crime.

Additionally, Bisbee confessed to conspiring with others to commit money laundering by using drug proceeds to purchase real estate in cash. Sentencing is scheduled for October 22, 2024, with a maximum sentence of life in prison and a fine of up to $10 million.

Assistant United States Attorney Maureen Sheehan-Balchon is prosecuting the case, which was investigated by the DEA, Pennsylvania State Police, and multiple other agencies. This prosecution is part of an OCDETF investigation aimed at dismantling high-level drug traffickers and criminal organizations.
