‘Loaded Guns, Loaded Lies’: Iowa Man Sentenced to 120 Months for Gun and Ammunition Charges
In a shocking display of disregard for the law, O’Sean Dentale Horton, a 29-year-old Iowa City man, was sentenced to 120 months in federal prison for possessing a firearm and ammunition as a felon.
According to public court documents and evidence presented at sentencing, Horton possessed two loaded pistols, a distribution quantity of marijuana, and drug paraphernalia in December 2020, within two backpacks found at Horton’s sister’s residence. This wasn’t the only time Horton broke the law, as he was witnessed on surveillance video shooting at another person multiple times in an apartment complex parking lot in Coralville in May 2023, leaving behind .40 caliber shell casings.
At the time of these offenses, Horton was on probation in the Iowa District Court for Johnson County for failure to affix a drug tax stamp. This blatant disregard for the law has now landed him a lengthy prison sentence.
United States Attorney Richard D. Westphal of the Southern District of Iowa made the announcement, stating that Horton will be required to serve a three-year term of supervised release after completing his term of imprisonment. There is no parole in the federal system.
This case was investigated by the Iowa City Police Department, University of Iowa Police Department, Johnson County Drug Task Force, Johnson County Special Emergency Response Team, and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives.
