Springfield Predator Sentenced on Child Exploitation Charges

SPRINGFIELD – A grim conviction unfolded in federal court as Bairon Ubeda, 45, of Springfield, Mass., was found guilty following a grueling four-day trial. The jury convicted him on three counts: possession and receipt of child pornography, and sexual exploitation of children.

U.S. District Court Judge Brian E. Murphy has set sentencing for November 24, 2025. Ubeda’s previous rap sheet is as lengthy as it is chilling. He was already serving a state sentence for aggravated rape, abuse of a child, disseminating child pornography, and other heinous crimes when he was indicted in May 2023.

According to evidence presented at trial, Ubeda orchestrated a deplorable scheme using fake social media personas and accounts to dupe women into providing explicit images and personal information. He threatened to expose these materials unless the victims engaged in sexual acts with him or lost custody of their children.

This monster also coerced a minor victim in a sickening attempt to produce child pornography, which he was also charged with receiving and possessing. The federal charges against Ubeda carry severe penalties; the sexual exploitation charge alone mandates a minimum sentence of 15 years in prison.

Today’s announcement was made by U.S. Attorney Leah B. Foley, Michael J. Krol of Homeland Security Investigations, Hampden County Sheriff Nick Cocchi, and Springfield Police Superintendent Lawrence Akers. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Lauren Maynard and Mark Grady prosecuted the case with tenacity.

This conviction is a testament to Project Safe Childhood, the Department of Justice’s nationwide effort to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse. For more information on this initiative, visit Project Safe Childhood.
