Mexican Citizen Sentenced For Illegal Reentry In Louisiana

New Orleans, Louisiana – The grim streets of New Orleans witnessed a stark reminder of the fight against illegal immigration as 29-year-old Mexican native Jose David Morales-Vazquez pleaded guilty to illegal reentry into the United States. Morales-Vazquez, a man who once walked free in this country despite having been legally removed in November 2018, now faces the weight of his transgression.

Court records show that Morales-Vazquez entered the U.S. without authorization and violated Title 8, United States Code, Section 1326(a). The Department of Justice (DOJ) had previously deported him, but he brazenly disregarded the law by returning to American soil.

Acting United States Attorney Michael M. Simpson announced that sentencing for Morales-Vazquez is set for November 4, 2025. He now stands convicted and faces a maximum penalty of two years in federal prison, a fine up to $250,000, and supervised release of one year after his sentence.

Morris-Vazquez’s crime also requires him to pay a mandatory $100 special assessment fee, which is a stark reminder of the heavy price he will have to pay for his illegal reentry. The U.S. Border Patrol was commended for their diligent work in this investigation by Acting U.S. Attorney Simpson.

Assistant United States Attorney Duane A. Evans is leading the prosecution in this case, which is part of Operation Take Back America – a nationwide initiative aimed at eliminating cartels and transnational criminal organizations (TCOs) while protecting American communities from violent crime. This operation leverages resources from OCDETFs and Project Safe Neighborhood.

This conviction sends a powerful message that illegal reentry will not be tolerated in the United States. As the justice system prepares to mete out its sternest punishment, Morales-Vazquez’s future is forever altered by his actions.
