Federal prosecutors in Nevada have secured a life sentence against Cory Spurlock, a Montana man, after he was convicted of murder-for-hire, drug trafficking, and witness tampering. The jury’s verdict followed a dramatic trial that spanned four weeks and ended with guilty verdicts on multiple counts.
Spurlock’s criminal activities began in 2020 when Jered Stefansky, a marijuana transaction participant, went missing during a deal in Mound House, Nevada. Spurlock, who was involved in a large-scale marijuana distribution business with Cory Spurlock and Will Larsen, targeted Larsen for death after hearing his name mentioned on a podcast by Stefansky’s mother. Spurlock and his co-conspirators stalked Larsen and his wife, Yesenia, resulting in their tragic murder outside Bridgeport, California.
Stefansky’s remains were discovered in March 2021, adding another layer of horror to the case. United States Attorney Sigal Chattah praised law enforcement for their dedication to justice, stating that the convictions reflect the severity of the crimes and the loss of life involved.
The trial revealed Spurlock’s involvement in a complex web of violence and drug trafficking. He was found guilty of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute over 1000 kilograms of marijuana, murder-for-hire conspiracy, tampering with a witness by killing, robbery, causing death through the use of a firearm during a violent crime, and stalking resulting in death.
Sentencing is scheduled for December 16, 2025, where Spurlock faces the maximum statutory penalty of life imprisonment. The investigation was conducted by multiple law enforcement agencies including the FBI, DEA, ATF, and local Nevada sheriff’s offices. Assistant United States Attorneys Megan Rachow and Penelope Brady are responsible for prosecution.
This case serves as a stark reminder of the lengths some will go to in the world of organized crime and drug trafficking, and it underscores the relentless pursuit of justice by federal law enforcement agencies.
