Reno, NV – A federal jury convicted Cory Spurlock of Missoula, Montana, on September 12, 2025, for orchestrating a chilling murder-for-hire plot that led to the deaths of two individuals.
“Last week’s verdict underscores our commitment to holding accountable those who carry out violent criminal acts resulting in the tragic loss of lives,” said United States Attorney Sigal Chattah for the District of Nevada.
The investigation began after Jered Stefansky went missing following a marijuana transaction in Mound House, Nevada. Spurlock was soon identified as a person of interest and later admitted to believing Will Larsen was a traitor who needed to die.
Spurlock, along with co-conspirators, stalked the Larsens in the Reno and Carson City area before the brutal murders occurred on November 8, 2020. Stefansky’s skeletal remains were discovered in March 2021.
After a four-week trial, Spurlock was found guilty of multiple charges, including conspiracy to distribute marijuana over 1000 kilograms, murder-for-hire conspiracy, witness tampering by killing, and robbery.
United States District Judge Miranda Du scheduled sentencing for December 16, 2025. Spurlock faces the maximum statutory penalty of life imprisonment.
