Kevin Lee Farmer, Abusive Sexual Contact, South Dakota 2021

Agency Village, South Dakota – In a disturbing case of child abuse, Kevin Lee Farmer, 58, was sentenced to 20 years in federal prison for his role in the abusive sexual contact of a minor. The conviction stems from incidents that took place between June 1, 2016, and December 31, 2016.

Farmer, an enrolled member of the Sisseton-Wahpeton Oyate Sioux Tribe, resided with the victim in the same household. Using force, he intentionally touched the victim’s genitalia, anus, groin, breast, inner thigh, and buttocks through their clothing. At the time of the contact, Farmer was approximately 54 years old, and the victim was under 12 years of age.

Farmer was indicted by a federal grand jury on July 20, 2020, and later pleaded guilty to Abusive Sexual Contact on April 12, 2021. The sentencing judge also found that he sexually abused other children, leaving a trail of trauma and devastation in his wake.

The case was investigated by the Sisseton Wahpeton Tribal Law Enforcement Criminal Investigations Division and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jeremy R. Jehangiri prosecuted the case, ultimately securing a 20-year prison sentence for Farmer.

Farmer was immediately turned over to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service, where he will serve his sentence. The victim, who has endured unimaginable suffering, deserves justice and closure. In addition to his prison sentence, Farmer was also ordered to pay a special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund in the amount of $100.
