La Crosse Man Sentenced to 78 Months in Prison for Methamphetamine Trafficking
MADISON, WIS. – In a shocking turn of events, Tang Vue, a 35-year-old resident of La Crosse, Wisconsin, was sentenced to 78 months in federal prison for his involvement in a methamphetamine trafficking ring.
The charges against Vue stem from an investigation conducted by the La Crosse Police Department, which revealed that on January 29 and February 3, 2021, a police informant purchased methamphetamine from Vue on two separate occasions.
Immediately following the second drug buy, police detectives followed Vue to a local restaurant in La Crosse, where he was apprehended. A search of Vue’s backpack uncovered $12,720 and a drug ledger, which indicated that some of Vue’s drug customers owed him thousands of dollars.
A search of Vue’s home also revealed thousands of empty gem bags, commonly used to package methamphetamine. Vue pleaded guilty to the methamphetamine trafficking charge on May 18, 2021.
In sentencing Vue, U.S. District Judge William M. Conley emphasized that Vue’s conduct in this case was egregious, especially given that he was on supervised release for a 2012 federal methamphetamine trafficking conviction.
The prosecution of the case has been handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney David J. Reinhard. Vue’s sentence includes 60 months in federal prison for the methamphetamine trafficking charge, plus an additional 18 consecutive months in prison for violating the terms of his federal supervised release.
Tang Vue’s case serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing threat posed by methamphetamine trafficking in our communities. As the nation grapples with the opioid crisis, it is essential that we remain vigilant in our efforts to combat this scourge.
