A Saucier man has been found guilty of possessing a firearm after having been convicted of a felony.
Gulfport, Miss. – Christopher Michael Gelston, 40, knowingly possessed a Ruger 9mm pistol, according to court documents.
The illegal possession of a firearm charge comes after Gelston had been previously convicted of a felony.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives is leading the investigation into the case.
Gelston is set to be sentenced on January 18, 2020, at 10:00 a.m. and faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
A federal district judge will determine any sentence after considering the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Andrea Jones is prosecuting the case.
Gelston’s current status is set to be determined after the sentencing on January 18, 2020.
Gelston’s case is a reminder of the severe consequences of possessing a firearm as a convicted felon.
The maximum penalty for the crime is 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
