Shelly Stallings, a 42-year-old woman from Morganfield, Kentucky, was arrested and charged with federal offenses related to the breach of the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021.
Stallings is accused of assaulting, resisting, or impeding certain officers using a dangerous weapon, civil disorder, and entering and remaining in a restricted building or grounds with a deadly or dangerous weapon, among other charges.
The incident occurred when a line of police officers was attempting to secure the area of the Lower West Terrace of the Capitol Building. Stallings and a second individual, Markus Maly, allegedly sprayed a chemical irritant, pepper spray, at the police officers.
Stallings will make her initial court appearance today in the Western District of Kentucky. She was arrested in Owensboro, Kentucky.
The case is being prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia and the National Security Division’s Counterterrorism Section. Valuable assistance was provided by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Kentucky.
Over 750 individuals have been arrested in nearly all 50 states for crimes related to the breach of the U.S. Capitol. The investigation remains ongoing.
