Willie A. Pratt Found Guilty of Distributing Fentanyl and Cocaine in Cleveland
CLEVELAND – A federal jury has found Willie A. Pratt, 34, of Cleveland, Ohio, guilty of distributing fentanyl and cocaine that resulted in the death of a victim.
The jury delivered their verdict after a four-day trial in U.S. District Court. Pratt was found guilty of one count of distributing fentanyl that resulted in the death, one count of conspiring to possess fentanyl, acetyl fentanyl, cocaine, and heroin, and two counts of possession with the intent to distribute controlled substances.
According to court documents and trial testimony, on October 30, 2021, Pratt sold cocaine and fentanyl to the victim who died as a result of the use of those substances. Further, on November 1, 2021, Pratt engaged in conspiracy or agreement with another person to distribute controlled substances, specifically, fentanyl, acetyl fentanyl, cocaine, and heroin.
Pratt also aided and abetted the possession of such substances with the intent to distribute them. Finally, on November 1, 2021, upon his arrest, Pratt himself possessed cocaine and fentanyl with the intent to distribute it.
Pratt faces a mandatory minimum sentence of twenty years in prison, although his sentence will be determined by many factors and may be higher than the mandatory minimum. Sentencing is scheduled for November 21, 2023.
The investigation preceding the indictment was conducted by the Rocky River Police Department. This case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Payum Doroodian and Yasmine Makridis.
Pratt’s conviction is a significant blow to the opioid epidemic plaguing the nation. The sale of fentanyl and other controlled substances has caused devastating harm to countless families and communities.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office will continue to prioritize the prosecution of individuals who engage in such deadly activities.
