Assault with a Golf Club Lands Fort Washakie Man Behind Bars
A 46-month prison sentence has been handed down to Aaron Clair Bigknife, 58, of Fort Washakie, Wyoming, for assault resulting in serious bodily injury.
U.S. District Court Judge Alan B. Johnson imposed the sentence on August 6 in Cheyenne.
According to the complaint filed in the case, Bigknife was at a friend’s house playing cards on the night of August 27, 2023, when he hit one of his friends in the head with a golf club. The attack was unprovoked.
When detectives interviewed Bigknife, he admitted to drinking heavily before arriving at his friend’s house and continued to drink when he got there. He claimed to not remember anything that happened until he was arrested by the police.
The crime was investigated by the FBI and the case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Michael J. Elmore.
Bigknife’s sentence brings an end to Case No. 23-CR-00134. The incident is a stark reminder of the devastating consequences of unprovoked violence.
The people of Fort Washakie and surrounding communities can rest a little easier knowing that justice has been served in this case.
