Excessive Force Allegations Rock New Castle Police Department
Aaron Strong, a former New Castle police officer, has been charged with excessive force and obstruction of justice, according to a federal grand jury indictment. The indictment alleges that Strong used unreasonable force against multiple individuals in custody, including an arrestee and two other people.
The charges against Strong include three counts of civil rights violations, each carrying a statutory maximum penalty of 10 years in prison. The obstruction of justice charge carries a statutory maximum penalty of 20 years in prison.
The investigation into Strong’s actions was conducted by the FBI’s Indianapolis Field Office. The case will be prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Peter Blackett and Trial Attorney Alec Ward of the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division.
Strong’s indictment is a result of a superseding indictment that added no new charges against him. The original indictment had previously been returned by a federal grand jury.
An indictment is merely an allegation, and Strong is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
Additional charges were also added against Adam Guy, a former Henry County Reserve Sheriff’s Deputy, who was charged with witness tampering. According to the superseding indictment, Guy engaged in misleading conduct toward another person with the intent to interfere with the investigation of one of the incidents for which Strong is charged with using unreasonable force.
