WASHINGTON – In a brutal display of jealousy, 23-year-old Marcus Walker of Washington, D.C. has been sentenced to 20 years to life in prison for the brutal murder of his ex-girlfriend’s new romantic partner, Erik King.
On October 11, 2022, Walker burst into the apartment in Northeast Washington, D.C., where he had been living in the living room, and shot King twice—once in the chest and another in the scrotum—after becoming enraged that King was having sex with his ex-girlfriend in the bedroom.
A six-year-old child was present in the bedroom when the shots were fired, and Walker was also found guilty of assaulting the child and the adult female with a dangerous weapon. Walker’s ex-girlfriend was not harmed in the attack.
Walker’s jealousy-fueled rampage was sparked by a series of aggressive text messages he sent to his ex-girlfriend, warning her to stop seeing King. When his warnings fell on deaf ears, Walker took matters into his own hands, bursting into the bedroom and opening fire on King.
The Metropolitan Police Department investigated the case, and Assistant United States Attorneys Lauren Galloway and Alec Levy prosecuted Walker for the crimes. Walker’s defense team did not return a request for comment on the verdict.
The Superior Court of the District of Columbia handed down the guilty verdict on May 7, 2024, and sentencing is scheduled for July 19, 2024. Walker faces a maximum sentence of 20 years to life in prison for the murder charge, as well as additional time for the assault and firearm charges.
As Walker begins his life sentence, the community is left to grapple with the devastating consequences of his actions. The case serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of domestic violence and the importance of holding perpetrators accountable for their crimes.
