Carjacking Kingpin Sentenced to 15 Years in Federal Prison

A Kansas City, Missouri, man was sentenced to 15 years and 11 months in federal prison without parole for carjacking and using a firearm during a crime of violence, as well as possessing a firearm in furtherance of a drug-trafficking crime.

Abdul M. Williams, 21, pleaded guilty to one count of robbery and one count of using a firearm during a crime of violence in the first case, and to possessing a firearm in furtherance of a drug-trafficking crime in the second case.

On September 9, 2020, Williams, along with co-defendant Regginald Dace Jr., 20, and an unidentified juvenile, were given a ride by the victim, identified as "J.D.", on Prospect Avenue in Kansas City, Mo. When they stopped at a gas station, Dace put a gun to the victim’s head and threatened to ‘blow his brains out.’

Williams withdrew $500 from the victim’s bank account using an ATM inside the gas station. The victim was forced at gunpoint to move from the driver’s seat to the back seat of his vehicle, a black 2015 GMC Sierra, and the juvenile got into the driver’s seat. They drove to a bank and attempted to withdraw more money from an ATM, but were unsuccessful.

Williams also admitted to possessing a firearm in furtherance of a drug-trafficking crime on July 11, 2020, when he was contacted by Kansas City police officers while rolling marijuana into a cigar wrapper inside a Conoco gas station. Officers searched his backpack and found 125 grams of marijuana.

Williams was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Roseann Ketchmark to 15 years and 11 months in federal prison without parole. The court also ordered Williams to pay $13,280 in restitution.

The victim stated he has received threats of violence for cooperating with the police on his case. The victim has rarely been able to leave his residence and has taken precautions to fortify his household against the threats.

Williams’ co-defendant, Regginald Dace Jr., 20, has pleaded guilty to one count of robbery and one count of using a firearm during a crime of violence and awaits sentencing.
