Trinitarios Gang Member Sentenced to 135 Months in Prison
Brooklyn, NY – In a brazen display of disregard for the law, Abel Mora, also known as “Moreno,” a member of the Trinitarios street gang, has been sentenced to 135 months in prison for his involvement in a string of violent crimes.
According to the prosecution, Mora committed two shootings in Queens and Brooklyn on August 13, 2023. The first shooting occurred at approximately 1 p.m. in a residential neighborhood in Queens, where a fight broke out between Mora and an associate and the occupant of a vehicle, resulting in a shoot-out that sent residents, including children, running for their safety.
Later that night, Mora committed a second shooting with the same firearm in Brooklyn, outside of 3441 Fulton Street. The victim, who was robbed of his backpack, was shot and left for dead. Video surveillance cameras captured the brazen shooting and robbery, which took place directly outside a busy corner store with customers both inside and out.
Mora was arrested on September 26, 2023, at his home, where law enforcement recovered the firearm used in both shootings in a radiator in his bedroom. The firearm was loaded with thirteen rounds of ammunition.
In a separate incident, while detained at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, Mora attempted to smuggle a rope full of contraband, including a weapon, drugs, and other items, into the facility. He pleaded guilty to possession of contraband in prison on June 24, 2025.
The sentencing was announced by Joseph Nocella, Jr., United States Attorney for the Eastern District of New York; Christopher G. Raia, Assistant Director in Charge, Federal Bureau of Investigation, New York Field Office (FBI); and Jessica S. Tisch, Commissioner, New York City Police Department (NYPD).
