Alberto Gomez, a Queens accountant, has been indicted for running multiple real estate investment fraud schemes that scammed over a dozen investors out of more than $3 million. The schemes involved Gomez soliciting investments for properties he didn’t own and selling more than 100% ownership interest in properties across Long Island. Gomez was arrested in Boca Raton, Florida, and will be arraigned in the Eastern District of New York at a later date.
Gomez’s fraud schemes were brazen, with him using the money from investors to fund his own lifestyle before filing for bankruptcy in an attempt to discharge his debts. The indictment alleges that Gomez lied to the court about his financial situation, making his bankruptcy filing a federal crime.
The FBI and the US Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York worked together to bring Gomez to justice. US Attorney Joseph Nocella stated that his office will vigorously prosecute serial fraudsters like Gomez, who allegedly stole millions of dollars from investors, including some who invested their life savings.
The investigation and arrest of Gomez demonstrate the commitment of law enforcement to protecting investors and holding accountable those who engage in fraudulent activities. The case serves as a warning to others who may be considering similar schemes, and a reminder to investors to be cautious and do their due diligence before investing in any opportunity.
