Ada, Oklahoma – Curtis Ray McClendon, III, a 41-year-old Ada resident, has pleaded guilty to Assault with a Dangerous Weapon with Intent to Do Bodily Harm in Indian Country.
According to court records, McClendon attacked a victim with a dangerous weapon on November 6, 2023, in Pontotoc County, which lies within the Chickasaw Nation Reservation and the Eastern District of Oklahoma.
The crime was investigated by a joint task force consisting of the Bureau of Indian Affairs, the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation, the Chickasaw Lighthorse Police Department, and the Ardmore Police Department.
Assistant United States Attorney T. Cameron McEwen represented the United States in the case. U.S. Magistrate Judge Gerald L. Jackson accepted McClendon’s plea in Muskogee, Oklahoma, and ordered a presentence investigation report.
McClendon will remain in the custody of the United States Marshal Service pending sentencing. His fate will be decided once the investigation report is completed.
McClendon’s guilty plea brings an end to a tumultuous chapter in his life. The full extent of the assault and its consequences will be revealed in the presentence investigation report.
The United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma has made it clear that it will continue to pursue justice in Indian Country, no matter the circumstances.
