Portland, Maine – A Sanford man has been indicted on federal charges of possession with intent to distribute heroin and cocaine, a crime that carries a significant penalty in the state of Maine.
Adam Hill, 34, of Sanford, Maine, was indicted by a federal grand jury in Portland on Tuesday on two counts of possession with intent to distribute heroin and cocaine. The indictment alleges that Hill possessed the substances with the intent to distribute them.
The case was investigated by the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency, the Sanford Police Department, and the Office of the Maine Attorney General, with assistance from the Maine State Police and South Berwick Police Department.
Hill faces up to 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine on each count. An indictment is merely an accusation, and a defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
Benjamin M. Block, Assistant United States Attorney, is handling the case. He can be reached at (207) 780-3257 for further information.
The indictment is a significant development in the ongoing fight against drug trafficking in Maine. The state has seen a rise in opioid-related overdoses and deaths in recent years, and law enforcement agencies have been working tirelessly to combat the issue.
The Sanford Police Department and the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency have been at the forefront of this effort, working together to identify and apprehend those involved in the trafficking of illicit substances.
