Pittsburgh Man Sentenced for Fentanyl and Heroin Distribution
PITTSBURGH, PA — Devontay Montaze Green, a 29-year-old resident of Pittsburgh, has been sentenced to seven years in prison for his involvement in the distribution of fentanyl and heroin that resulted in death. The sentence was imposed on Green by Senior United States District Judge Joy Flowers Conti.
According to information presented to the court, on the morning of October 31, 2018, K.K. was found dead in the basement of an Alison Park, PA, residence. Paramedics and the McCandless Police Department responded to the residence. Paramedics were unable to resuscitate K.K., and he was pronounced dead at the scene. The McCandless Police Department recovered drug use paraphernalia and ripped, empty stamp bags marked ‘Hurricane Harvey’ in red ink and ‘Burger King’ in blue ink near his body. Law enforcement also recovered K.K.’s cellular phone and provided all evidence to the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Opioid Task Force. The investigation confirmed that Green distributed the controlled substances that caused K.K.’s death.
Assistant United States Attorney Brendan J. McKenna prosecuted this case on behalf of the government. United States Attorney Eric G. Olshan commended the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Opioid Task Force and the McCandless Police Department for the investigation leading to the successful prosecution of Green.
Prior to imposing sentence, Judge Conti stressed that fentanyl has had a devastating impact on the community and expressed her condolences to K.K.’s family.
Green was convicted of violating federal narcotics laws. The sentence of seven years in prison, followed by five years of supervised release, is a direct result of the investigation and prosecution of this case.
The McCandless Police Department’s swift response to the scene and the subsequent investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Opioid Task Force were instrumental in bringing Green to justice.
