Adam Lee, Bank Fraud, Possession of Stolen Mail, California 2025

A brazen bank fraud and mail theft scheme has landed a Sacramento County man in prison for over five years. Adam Lee, 38, of Orangevale, was sentenced to five years and four months in prison for his involvement in the crimes.

U.S. District Court Judge John A. Mendez handed down the sentence, which is the culmination of an investigation by the U.S. Postal Inspection Service. According to court documents, Lee obtained and counterfeited postal keys, which he used to steal mail from mailboxes.

From the stolen mail, Lee obtained identifying information, financial information, and bank checks of other people. He then attempted to negotiate, deposit, or cash the stolen checks. Lee and his co-defendant, Windy Lund, possessed more than $273,000 in stolen checks that they either attempted to negotiate or possessed with the intent to negotiate.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Elliot C. Wong prosecuted the case, bringing Lee and Lund to justice for their crimes. Lund is scheduled to be sentenced on April 22, 2025, before Judge Mendez.

The investigation into Lee’s crimes has shed light on the devastating impact of mail theft on innocent victims. Victims of mail theft often report feeling vulnerable and exposed, as their personal and financial information is compromised.

Lee’s sentencing serves as a reminder that those who engage in such crimes will be held accountable. The U.S. Postal Inspection Service and the U.S. Attorney’s Office remain committed to protecting the public from financial crimes and ensuring that those responsible are brought to justice.
