CONCORD – In a shocking turn of events, Adam W. Gagnon, 43, of Manchester, New Hampshire, pleaded guilty to fentanyl trafficking charges in federal court on Wednesday.
Gagnon was charged with possession of fentanyl with intent to distribute, a serious crime that puts the public at risk. According to court documents, Gagnon was arrested after Manchester police detectives received information that he would be traveling to Lawrence, Massachusetts, to pick up a significant quantity of fentanyl for distribution.
Gagnon was arrested on January 30, 2020, after detectives observed him traveling to Lawrence in an Uber. He was stopped and arrested on outstanding warrants, and a lab later confirmed that the package he had with him contained over 480 grams of fentanyl.
“Those who bring large quantities of fentanyl into New Hampshire are endangering public safety,” said U.S. Attorney Scott W. Murray. “In order to protect our communities, Operation S.O.S. is targeting the fentanyl dealers who are distributing this deadly drug in Hillsborough County.”
Gagnon is scheduled to be sentenced on May 28, 2021. The case was investigated by the Manchester Police Department and is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Joachim H. Barth.
This case is part of Operation Synthetic Opioid Surge (S.O.S.), a nationwide effort to combat the large number of overdoses and deaths associated with fentanyl and other synthetic opioids. The U.S. Attorney’s Office is focusing its efforts on prosecuting synthetic opioid trafficking cases arising in Hillsborough County, which includes Manchester and Nashua.
Gagnon’s actions have put the public at risk, and it is essential that he is held accountable for his crimes. The people of New Hampshire deserve to feel safe in their communities, and it is up to law enforcement to ensure that those who break the law are brought to justice.
