Fentanyl Trafficking Conspiracy in NH

A 38-year-old woman from Groveton, New Hampshire, has pleaded guilty to participating in a fentanyl trafficking conspiracy, a federal crime that poses a significant threat to the state, U.S. Attorney Scott W. Murray announced today.

Meredith Willey, 38, of Groveton, New Hampshire, pleaded guilty in federal court to participating in a fentanyl trafficking conspiracy. According to court documents and statements made in court, Willey and her accomplices went to Lawrence, Massachusetts, on March 1, 2018, to purchase 250 grams of a controlled substance, which was later found to be fentanyl.

Willey and her accomplices used a hidden compartment in their vehicle to transport the fentanyl, which they intended to resale in New Hampshire. When stopped by New Hampshire State Trooper, Willey admitted to purchasing fentanyl in Lawrence and reselling it in New Hampshire.

“Fentanyl continues to pose a significant threat to our state,” said U.S. Attorney Murray. “We are committed to stopping the flow of fentanyl into New Hampshire. Drug traffickers should understand that the law enforcement community is working hard each day to identify and prosecute those who are responsible for distributing this deadly drug in the Granite State.”

The case was a collaborative investigation that involved multiple law enforcement agencies, including the DEA, New Hampshire State Police, Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, and Massachusetts State Police. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorneys Georgiana L. Konesky, Seth R. Aframe, and Debra M. Walsh.

Willey is scheduled to be sentenced on January 3, 2019. The case is supported by the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCDETF) program, a federal multi-agency, multi-jurisdictional task force that supplies supplemental federal funding to federal and state agencies involved in the identification, investigation, and prosecution of major drug trafficking organizations.

A total of 240 grams of fentanyl was found in the hidden compartment of the vehicle, with an estimated street value of hundreds of thousands of dollars. The investigation and prosecution of Willey and her accomplices are a significant blow to the fentanyl trafficking operation and a testament to the determination of law enforcement agencies to protect the citizens of New Hampshire from the dangers of fentanyl.
