New York – The state of affairs in the Bronx is set to take a turn this April as Attorney General Letitia James announces a public hearing concerning the closure of Preston High School. Scheduled for Tuesday, April 8th at 5:00 p.m., the hearing will be held at Lehman High School Auditorium.
Attorney General James emphasizes the significance of community involvement, urging everyone from teachers to alumni and local families to voice their concerns and opinions. Written testimony is due by Friday, April 4th, with a deadline for online submissions extending until Tuesday, April 8th at 5:00 p.m.
“For decades, Preston High School has been an integral part of the Bronx community,” James stated. “The closure of this venerable institution will have profound effects on students, staff, and families alike.”
Preston High School, a notable all-girls Catholic school, has stood as a beacon for education in the Bronx for 75 years. Last month, the school’s impending closure at the end of the current academic year was announced, prompting a wave of concern from the community.
Through this public hearing, James seeks to gain direct insights from stakeholders and regional officials, aiming to find a resolution that serves the best interests of the Bronx community. Oral testimony is invited and must be submitted in writing by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, April 4th.
The hearing will also be available for public viewing via livestream. Those requiring accommodations should contact ADA.administrator@ag.ny.gov.
