Raleigh, NC – In a shocking turn of events, five foreign nationals have been indicted on charges of illegal reentry in North Carolina, sparking concerns about border security and immigration enforcement.
According to the indictments, Mayocho Aguilino Jimenez-Martinez, 35, of Mexico, Jose Osiel Gomez-Romero, 33, of Mexico, Ezequiel Iracheta-Padilla, 34, of Mexico, Jose Luis Torralba-Amador, 37, of Mexico, and Javier Cabrera-Quiroz, 41, of Mexico, have all been charged with violating federal laws related to illegal reentry.
Jimenez-Martinez, who has been deported five times, faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison, a $250,000 fine, and a term of supervised release if convicted. Gomez-Romero, Iracheta-Padilla, and Torralba-Amador, who have all been deported multiple times, face a maximum penalty of 2 years in prison, a $250,000 fine, and a term of supervised release if convicted.
Torralba-Amador, who was previously deported four times, is also alleged to have been deported subsequent to a felony conviction for possession of a controlled substance. If convicted, he would face a maximum imprisonment term of 10 years, a $250,000 fine, and a term of supervised release following any term of imprisonment.
Cabrera-Quiroz, who was previously deported and found in Pitt County, is alleged to have been deported subsequent to an aggravated felony conviction for attempted possession of cocaine with intent to distribute. If convicted, he would face a maximum imprisonment term of 20 years, a $250,000 fine, and a term of supervised release following any term of imprisonment.
The cases are being investigated by ICE’s Enforcement and Removal Operations and Homeland Security Investigations. The charges and allegations contained in the indictments are merely accusations, and the defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
The indictments serve as a stark reminder of the need for effective immigration enforcement and border security measures to prevent individuals from re-entering the country illegally.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of North Carolina will continue to work closely with law enforcement agencies to investigate and prosecute individuals who violate federal laws related to immigration and border security.
