BOSTON – Denis Aguirre-Murillo, a 40-year-old Honduran national living in Fall River, Mass., has pleaded guilty to unlawfully reentering the United States after being deported. The defendant faces up to 10 years in prison for his illegal actions.
Aguirre-Murillo, who was previously deported to Honduras on three separate occasions—July 2007, March 2016, and January 2021—illegally returned to the U.S. after his January 2021 removal. He was apprehended in Fall River on May 4, 2024, under an alias, charged with intimidation and rape, which was later amended to indecent assault and battery.
Immigration authorities had lodged a detainer for Aguirre-Murillo, but he was released from local custody without notification on Feb. 19, 2025. He was located again and taken into immigration custody on May 29, 2025. Sentencing is scheduled for Nov. 12, 2025.
Under the charge of unlawful reentry of a deported alien, Aguirre-Murillo could be sentenced to up to 10 years in prison, three years of supervised release, and a fine of up to $250,000. Upon completion of any sentence imposed, he is subject to deportation.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Mackenzie A. Queenin of the Criminal Division. United States Attorney Leah B. Foley and Patricia H. Hyde, Field Office Director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Enforcement and Removal Operations in Boston, made the announcement.
It is important to note that the details contained in the charging documents are allegations, and Aguirre-Murillo is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
