Akeem Davis, Firearms Offense, New York 2024

A Florida man has been sentenced to 18 months in prison for possessing a firearm as a convicted felon.

Akeem Davis, 31, of Brandon, Florida, was sentenced by United States District Judge Mae A. D’Agostino in Albany, New York. Davis was found guilty of possessing a firearm as a convicted felon after driving from Florida to Latham, New York, to sell a privately manufactured firearm.

The firearm, often referred to as a ‘ghost gun,’ had no serial number and was untraceable. Davis was offering to sell the firearm for $1,200 in exchange for other items. He also offered to sell machine gun conversion devices and firearm silencers.

According to Acting United States Attorney John A. Sarcone III, Davis’s actions were ‘fueled by blatant disregard for the law.’ Sarcone stated that the office will ‘not tolerate felons who attempt to flood our streets with illegal, unregulated weapons.’

Special Agent in Charge Bryan Miller of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives also weighed in on the case. Miller stated that ‘those who traffic in illegal firearms – including machine guns and silencers – will be held accountable.’

Davis was previously convicted of a Kansas state felony drug charge, making him ineligible to possess a firearm. He was also sentenced to two years of post-release supervision.

The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, with Assistant United States Attorney Matthew Paulbeck prosecuting the case.

Project Safe Neighborhoods, a program aimed at reducing violent crime, was also involved in the case. The program works to identify violent crime problems in communities and develop comprehensive solutions to address them.
