Darren Tibbets, a 32-year-old Akron man, has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for distributing heroin and fentanyl in Akron, Ohio. Tibbets was out on parole when he committed the crimes, which occurred in 2025. Federal agents with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) began investigating suspected drug trafficking in Akron, and Tibbets was identified as a key player. The investigation found that Tibbets was actively involved in illegal drug trafficking, and approximately 21 grams of heroin and fentanyl were seized from him.
Tibbets pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute heroin and fentanyl, as well as distribution of heroin and fentanyl, in December 2025. He was sentenced to 120 months (10 years) in prison for these crimes, and an additional 24 months (2 years) for violating the terms of his supervised release. The sentences will run consecutively, resulting in a total of 144 months (12 years) in prison.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Brett S. Hammond. The sentence was handed down by U.S. District Judge Donald C. Nugent.
