A Parkersburg man, previously convicted of manufacturing a controlled substance, has been sentenced to the maximum statutory term of 10 years in federal prison for unlawful firearms possession.
Alan Keith Philpott, 46, pleaded guilty in February of 2014 to possessing 26 firearms in spite of his status as a convicted felon.
On November 1, 2012, and March 21, 2013, police executed search warrants at Philpott’s residence on Elm Tree Drive near Parkersburg.
During the first search, police seized 22 firearms – including two stolen firearms, oxycodone, hydrocodone, diazepam, alprazolam, approximately three pounds of marijuana, ‘bath salts,’ and U.S. currency.
During the second search warrant, police seized an additional four firearms, hydrocodone, marijuana, and ‘bath salts.’
Philpott had been previously convicted in December of 2006 in the Circuit Court of Wood County of the felony offense of manufacturing a controlled substance.
The West Virginia State Police, Parkersburg Police Department, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation conducted the investigation. Assistant United States Attorney Joshua Hanks is in charge of the prosecution.
Philpott’s sentence of 10 years in federal prison is a maximum term for unlawful firearms possession. The exact date of the sentencing is not specified in the press release.
