Alan Rodrigues, Tax Fraud, Nevada 2004

Grimy Times has learned that Alan Rodrigues, a former Las Vegas pit boss and casino owner, has been indicted on charges of conspiracy to defraud the United States, aiding in the preparation of false tax returns, and mail fraud.

According to the indictment, Rodrigues was the general manager of the National Audit Defense Network (NADN), a company that sold a fraudulent tax product called Tax Break 2000. The indictment alleges that Tax Break 2000 was a shopping Web site that Rodrigues and his co-conspirators fraudulently stated would allow customers to claim legitimate income tax credits and deductions under the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA) and the Internal Revenue Code.

The indictment further alleges that Rodrigues and his co-conspirators marketed Tax Break 2000 nationwide through radio advertisements and promotional appearances on talk radio programs. The indictment also alleges that the defendants caused NADN to sell Tax Break 2000 approximately 21,610 times to customers around the country.

Rodrigues is charged with one count of conspiracy to defraud the United States, 15 counts of aiding in the preparation of false tax returns, and five counts of mail fraud. If convicted, he faces up to 20 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000 for each count.

Weston Coolidge, a businessman from Las Vegas, and Joseph Prokop, a former National Football League punter from Upland, Calif., have also been charged in the scheme.
