The charges are mere accusations, with the defendant maintaining his innocence until proven guilty in court.

The offense carries a severe penalty, with a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison, a fine up to $250,000, and up to 3 years of post-release supervision. Sentencing will be determined by the particular statute violated, U.S. Sentencing Guidelines, and other considerations by a judge.

The U.S. Marshals Service is leading the investigation with support from the North Greenbush Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF). Assistant U.S. Attorney Jonathan S. Reiner is prosecuting the case.
