ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Frederick Trevitt, 60, of Newark, NY, is facing serious federal charges after authorities uncovered a disturbing cache of illegal material. Trevitt was arrested and charged with receipt and possession of child pornography, a crime carrying a mandatory minimum sentence of five years behind bars and a potential maximum of twenty.
The case, announced today by U.S. Attorney Trini E. Ross, began to unfold in August 2022 when New York State Police investigators, operating undercover online, identified an IP address distributing suspected child pornography. That address led directly to Trevitt. Approximately 36 files were downloaded from the source before investigators traced it back to him.
The investigation didn’t stop there. On January 4, 2023, NYSP executed a search warrant at Trevitt’s residence, seizing multiple electronic devices. A subsequent forensic analysis revealed a sickening haul: more than 100 child pornography files were discovered on a single laptop computer. The details of the files have not been released, but authorities confirm the investigation is ongoing.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Meghan K. McGuire is prosecuting the case. Trevitt made an initial appearance before U.S. Magistrate Judge Marian W. Payson and is currently being held pending further court proceedings. The speed with which the investigation progressed from online detection to physical arrest demonstrates the commitment of law enforcement to combatting this heinous crime.
Homeland Security Investigations, led by Special Agent-in-Charge Matthew Scarpino, spearheaded the investigation alongside the New York State Police, under the direction of Major Brian Ratajczak. The Wayne County District Attorney’s Office also provided crucial assistance. This was a coordinated effort to take a predator off the streets.
It’s critical to remember that an indictment is not a conviction. Trevitt is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. However, the evidence presented thus far paints a grim picture, and the Grimy Times will continue to follow this case as it develops. (Contact: Barbara Burns, (716) 843-5817, fax (716) 551-3051)
