A South Dakota federal court on April 23, 2013, handed down a sentence to Rodney L. Bolin, a 38-year-old man from Stang, Oklahoma, for his failure to pay child support.
Bolin was found guilty of not paying over $42,693.00 in past due child support, despite being ordered by the Sisseton-Wahpeton Oyate Court, Lake Traverse Indian Reservation to pay $600.00 per month for his minor children, commencing June 1, 2003.
According to court documents, Bolin made a payment in March of 2012 but stopped making child support payments in September of 2009, resulting in a total arrearage amount of $42,693.48 at the time of indictment.
U.S. District Judge Charles B. Kornmann sentenced Bolin to time served, 1 year of unsupervised probation, a $100.00 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund, and child support restitution in the amount of $49,213.50.
The case was investigated by the Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Inspector General.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Thomas J. Wright prosecuted the case, which was brought to the court’s attention after Bolin failed to pay his child support for several years.
As a result of the sentence, Bolin will have to pay the significant amount of restitution to his children, bringing an end to a long-standing case of child support evasion.
