Julius Ferrell Black, Felon in Possession of Firearm, Oklahoma 2016

MUSKOGEE, OKLAHOMA – Julius Ferrell Black, 30, of Tahlequah, Oklahoma, was handed a 120-month prison term and an additional three years of supervised release for his conviction on Felon in Possession of Firearm charges. The sentence, imposed by the Honorable Ronald A. White, comes after a jury trial on November 1-2, 2016, which determined Black’s guilt for the offense committed on or about June 29, 2016.

Black’s conviction stems from his illegal possession of a firearm within the Eastern District of Oklahoma, in clear violation of Title 18, United States Code, Sections 922(g)(1) and 924(a)(2). The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives collaborated to investigate the case.

The hearing was presided over by Judge White at the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Oklahoma in Muskogee. Black will be transported to a federal facility to serve his nonparoleable sentence after his current custody status is resolved.

Assistant United States Attorneys Timothy Hammer and Chris Wilson represented the United States in the case. The sentence, while lengthy, is intended to serve as a deterrent for others considering similar criminal activities.

This sentence underscores the government’s commitment to enforcing gun laws strictly, ensuring public safety and preventing future firearm-related crimes within the Eastern District of Oklahoma.
