The gritty streets of Antlers, Oklahoma, saw a grim milestone as TROY LYNN HUGHES, a 54-year-old resident of the town, pleaded guilty to being a Felon in Possession of a Firearm. The charge, a direct violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 922(g)(l), stems from an intensive investigation by the District 17 Drug Task Force, Pittsburg County Sheriff’s Office, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
Hughes was indicted in November 2013 for a crime that occurred on or about September 13, 2012. According to the indictment, Hughes, having been convicted of a crime with a prison term exceeding one year, knowingly possessed firearms that had been shipped and transported across state lines, affecting interstate commerce.
Presiding over the hearing was the Honorable Steven P. Shreder, Magistrate Judge in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Oklahoma, located in Muskogee. The judge ordered a presentence investigation report to be completed before sentencing. Hughes remains in custody under the watchful eyes of the United States Marshal Service.
The potential punishment for this offense is severe, with a maximum sentence of not more than 10 years imprisonment and/or up to a $250,000 fine. Assistant United States Attorney Kyle Waters represented the United States during the hearing.
This case serves as a stark reminder of the relentless pursuit of justice in Oklahoma’s Eastern District, where law enforcement agencies continue to crack down on illegal firearms possession, ensuring public safety remains a priority.
