Sisters’ Despicable Act of Theft Exposed: $350,000 Stolen in Social Security Benefits

Two notorious sisters, Patricia Lee Kendall and Peggy Lee Larue, 66 and 63 respectively, of Sapulpa, Oklahoma, have been brought to justice for their egregious crime of stealing more than $350,000 in Social Security and military retirement benefits meant for their deceased mother.

The U.S. Attorney, Trent Shores, condemned the sisters’ actions as ‘disgraceful’ and stated, ‘Their fraud was ongoing for nearly 20 years. In addition to serving time in federal prison, they will be required to make payments to compensate these federal programs for the more than $350,000 in stolen funds.’

Patricia Lee Kendall and Peggy Lee Larue pleaded guilty to two-counts of aiding and abetting each other to illegally take and conceal government property in the form of money from both the Social Security Administration and the Department of Defense Military Retirement Fund.

The women admitted in court that they failed to notify authorities of their mother’s death in December 2000. Previously, their mother had received the death benefit payments as a result of her husband’s military service. After their mother passed away, the payments should have ceased.

The sisters’ heinous act yielded an aggregate value of $224,237 in Social Security income and $129,765 in military retirement funds. During sentencing, Judge Gregory K. Frizzell ordered the two sisters to repay the $354,002.

Assistant U.S. Attorneys Scott Proctor and Shannon Cozzoni prosecuted the case, with the Social Security Administration- Office of Inspector General and Department of Defense Criminal Investigative Service conducting the investigation.

The case serves as a stark reminder of the severe consequences of committing such egregious crimes. The sisters’ actions have been met with the full force of the law, and they will now face the repercussions of their actions.
