Crime Victims Rights
In observance of National Crime Victims’ Rights Week, U.S. Attorney Trent Shores and Tulsa County District Attorney Steve Kunzweiler are hosting ‘A Community Day of Hope’ in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
The event will take place on April 13, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at OSU Tulsa, 700 Greenwood Avenue, Tulsa, Oklahoma. This free community event aims to educate attendees about crime victim resources and provide a platform for crime victims to share their stories.
U.S. Attorney Shores said, ‘Victims of crime deserve justice. This event is an opportunity to educate our community about crime victim resources and honor the courage of crime victims who come forward to tell their stories.’
The event will feature speakers, including U.S. Attorney Trent Shores, Oklahoma Attorney General Mike Hunter, Tulsa County District Attorney Steve Kunzweiler, Tulsa County Sheriff Vic Regalado, and Tulsa Police Chief Chuck Jordan. Additionally, crime victims and their families will share their stories, and the Oklahoma Blood Institute will have a mobile unit on site to collect blood donations.
Attorney General William P. Barr said, ‘Victims of crime deserve justice. This Department works every day to help them recover and to find, prosecute, and convict those who have done them harm.’
The event is held in conjunction with the Tulsa Health Departments’ one-mile ENDUI Walk in remembrance of loved ones lost to DUI-related crashes, which starts at 10 a.m. Community members are encouraged to attend and show their support for crime victims.
Each year in April, the U.S. Attorney’s Office and the Office of the Tulsa County District Attorney observe National Crime Victims’ Rights Week by hosting events to honor victims of crime and bring awareness to services available to victims of crime.
The U.S. Department of Justice will host the Office for Victims of Crime’s annual National Crime Victims’ Service Awards Ceremony in Washington, D.C. on April 12, 2019, to honor outstanding individuals and programs that serve victims of crime.
The event is a tribute to the millions of Americans who have been victims of crime and a reminder of the importance of providing support and resources to those affected.
