Nicaraguan National Charged with Unlawful Reentry in Massachusetts
A Nicaraguan national has been indicted on a federal immigration charge in Boston, Massachusetts.
Alberto Jose Mora-Hurtado, 43, was indicted on one count of unlawful reentry of a deported alien. According to court documents, law enforcement officers in Chelsea encountered Mora-Hurtado on July 24, 2017, and determined him to be illegally present in the United States.
Mora-Hurtado was previously deported on September 1, 2010. He now faces a potential sentence of no greater than two years in prison, up to one year of supervised release, a fine of $250,000, and will be subject to deportation proceedings upon completion of his sentence.
Acting United States Attorney William D. Weinreb and Matthew Etre, Special Agent in Charge of Homeland Security Investigations in Boston, made the announcement.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Suzanne Sullivan Jacobus of Weinreb’s Major Crimes Unit is prosecuting the case. The details contained in the indictment are allegations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
This case is the result of an investigation by Homeland Security Investigations. Assistant U.S. Attorney Suzanne Sullivan Jacobus of Weinreb’s Major Crimes Unit is prosecuting the case.
