Albuquerque Man Charged with Gun Trafficking

Genaro Ramos, a 35-year-old man from Albuquerque, was ordered to remain detained after a preliminary hearing on August 30. The hearing was for a charge of transfer or possession of a machine gun.

The incident occurred on August 24 when Ramos allegedly met an undercover agent in Albuquerque to purchase four firearms, including a fully automatic machine gun. Ramos allegedly paid the agreed amount in cash and took possession of the firearms before agents arrested him at the scene.

A complaint is only an allegation, and Ramos is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty. If convicted, he faces up to 10 years in prison.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives is handling the case, with Assistant United States Attorney Jaymie L. Roybal prosecuting.
