ALBUQUERQUE, NM – Melissa Redfearn-Martinez, a 34-year-old Albuquerque resident, has been sentenced to 63 months in prison for her role in a methamphetamine trafficking ring.
According to court documents, on October 17, 2017, law enforcement intercepted two vehicles transporting methamphetamine to Farmington, New Mexico. Redfearn-Martinez was driving one of them. Law enforcement officers conducted a K9 sniff and search both vehicles, revealing 776.2 grams of methamphetamine hidden in Redfearn-Martinez’s vehicle.
Redfearn-Martinez’s sentence also includes a three-year term of supervised release, following her completion of the prison term. In the federal system, there is no parole. U.S. Attorney Alexander M.M. Uballez and Raul Bujanda, Special Agent in Charge of the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Albuquerque Field Office, made the announcement today.
Redfearn-Martinez’s case was investigated by the FBI’s Albuquerque Field Office, with Assistant United States Attorney Joseph Spindle leading the prosecution. The investigation led to the discovery of a significant methamphetamine trafficking operation in the area.
The sentencing of Redfearn-Martinez serves as a reminder of the ongoing fight against methamphetamine trafficking in New Mexico. “Methamphetamine has devastating effects on individuals and communities,” said U.S. Attorney Uballez. “We will continue to work tirelessly to disrupt and dismantle these operations.”
