Mandy Shorey, Methamphetamine Trafficking, Armed Deal, Indiana 2024

A 43-year-old Peru woman has been brought to justice for her role in a methamphetamine trafficking operation, pleading guilty to distributing and possessing with intent to distribute the deadly drug.

Mandy Shorey, 43, was charged with conspiracy to distribute and possess methamphetamine, as well as using a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime. Her guilty plea comes after a lengthy investigation by the FBI and the Portland Police Department.

According to court records, Shorey made multiple sales of methamphetamine to an undercover officer in Portland between July 2022 and January 2023. She obtained the drugs from her Massachusetts supplier, Angel Luis Lozano, who has also pleaded guilty to federal drug charges.

On several occasions, Shorey supplied the undercover officer with substantial quantities of methamphetamine, including two pounds in November 2022 and approximately one pound in January 2023. During the January transaction, Shorey was armed with a handgun, telling the undercover officer that it was her practice to always carry a firearm for protection when conducting drug deals.

Following the January transaction, the Portland Police Department initiated a traffic stop of Shorey’s vehicle, recovering the handgun. The FBI investigation was assisted by the Portland Police Department.

Shorey now faces a minimum sentence of 10 years and up to life in prison, as well as a fine of up to $10 million, followed by supervised release for at least five years and up to life. She also faces a minimum sentence of five years and a fine of up to $250,000 on the firearms charge.

Shorey will be sentenced after the completion of a presentence investigation report by the U.S. Probation Office. A federal district judge will determine any sentence after considering the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors. The guilty plea marks a significant blow to the methamphetamine trafficking operation, and law enforcement officials are hailing it as a major victory in the fight against drug trafficking in Maine.
