Tucson Man Sentenced to Prison for Smuggling Grenade Launchers

A 27-year-old man from Arizona has been sentenced to prison for smuggling weapons into Mexico. Alejandro Valles, of Aguila, Arizona, was sentenced to 15 months in prison by U.S. District Judge James A. Soto.

Valles was convicted of smuggling an M203 40mm grenade launcher barrel from the United States into Mexico. He was not acting alone, as his co-conspirator, David Alberto Duarte-Marquez, a Mexican citizen, was also sentenced to 33 months in prison for his role in the crime.

Homeland Security Investigations conducted the investigation in this case, with the assistance of Customs and Border Protection. Angela W. Woolridge, Assistant U.S. Attorney, District of Arizona, Tucson, handled the prosecution.

Valles and Duarte-Marquez pleaded guilty to their offenses. The case numbers are 21-0543-TUC-JAS and 20-2414-TUC-JAS. The release number is 2022-011_Valles.
