Defendant Indicted for Voluntarily Returning to US
Alex Rafael Gonzalez-Morales, a 35-year-old Honduran national, has been charged with breaking federal law by reentering the United States illegally. Gonzalez-Morales’ indictment is a result of an investigation conducted by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) Miami – Jacksonville sub-office.
According to the indictment, Gonzalez-Morales was previously convicted of unlawful reentry of a removed alien in 2019. He was subsequently removed from the United States but failed to obtain the necessary consent from the Attorney General or the Secretary of Homeland Security to reapply for admission. On January 14, 2025, Gonzalez-Morales was found to be voluntarily in the United States.
This case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Rachel Lasry. Gonzalez-Morales’ trial is set to begin on March 3, 2025. If convicted, he faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in federal prison.
