TALLAHASSEE, FLORIDA – A former university postdoctoral scholar has been locked away for 96 months behind bars after being caught distributing and receiving child pornography. Dylan Kelby Rogers, 39, of Tallahassee, was handed the sentence by John P. Heekin, United States Attorney for the Northern District of Florida.
U.S. Attorney Heekin emphasized the severity of Rogers’ crimes, saying they were a heinous form of exploitation and a re-victimization of the innocent minors involved. He praised the joint investigative efforts of state and federal law enforcement partners in bringing this predator to justice.
Rogers came forward in December 2024 after being extorted online. During his interview with a federal agent, Rogers admitted watching child porn on an app and showed him several videos stored on his cell phone. Forensic examination revealed over 30 illegal videos and communication with other users about child pornography.
Chief Lawrence Revell of the Tallahassee Police Department highlighted the importance of partnerships in combating child exploitation. Assistant Special Agent in Charge Nicholas Ingegno of Homeland Security Investigations Tallahassee emphasized the societal challenge posed by such crimes, emphasizing HSI’s unwavering commitment to protecting children from harm.
Rogers will serve a lifetime term of supervised release following his prison sentence and is required to pay restitution to victims. He was also ordered to register as a sex offender. The joint investigation involved the Tallahassee Police Department and Homeland Security Investigations, with prosecution by Assistant United States Attorney Justin M. Keen.
