Dylan Kelby Rogers, Child Pornography Distribution and Receipt, California 2024

TALLAHASSEE, FLORIDA – Dylan Kelby Rogers, 39, a former university postdoctoral scholar, has been sentenced to 96 months in federal prison for distribution and receipt of child pornography. The sentence, announced by U.S. Attorney John P. Heekin, underscores the severe consequences of such heinous crimes.

Rogers, who was based in Tallahassee, reported being extorted online in December 2024. During an interview with a federal agent, he confessed to watching child pornography with another individual and showed the agent several videos on his cell phone. A forensic examination of Rogers’s cell phone revealed more than 30 illegal videos and evidence of communications about child pornography.

U.S. Attorney Heekin emphasized the need for swift and severe punishment in such cases, noting the ongoing re-victimization of minors each time their exploitation is shared online. Chief Lawrence Revell of the Tallahassee Police Department highlighted the importance of strong partnerships in protecting the most vulnerable members of society.

Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) Assistant Special Agent in Charge Nicholas Ingegno emphasized the societal challenge posed by child exploitation, emphasizing HSI’s unwavering commitment to combatting this scourge and safeguarding children. Rogers will serve a lifetime term of supervised release following his prison sentence, with additional incarceration possible if he violates supervision conditions.

The joint investigation was conducted by the Tallahassee Police Department and U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s HSI. The case is part of Project Safe Childhood, a national initiative to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse. For more information, visit www.projectsafechildhood.gov.
