MISSOULA – Idaho’s Nicole Lynn Shain, 40, faced a grim fate after being sentenced to 132 months in prison for drug trafficking on the Flathead Indian Reservation. The sentence was announced by U.S. Attorney Kurt Alme.
In a gritty turn of events, Shain pleaded guilty in April 2025 to possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine and fentanyl. Judge Donald W. Molloy presided over the solemn hearing.
The government’s accusations laid bare a trail of destruction. On July 1, 2024, law enforcement officers noticed a black SUV, with an Idaho license plate, parked near a hot spot for substance abuse in Pablo, MT. Surveillance followed the vehicle, only to find it vanished upon return. Later, the same SUV, now with Shain as its sole passenger, appeared in Ronan, MT.
As fate would have it, Shain was stopped when she discarded a piece of tin foil with drug residue. A search warrant revealed 26.8 grams of meth, several grams of fentanyl powder, and 1,092 pills laced with the deadly substance – far exceeding user amounts.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Brian Lowney. Homeland Security Investigations and Flathead Tribal Police were instrumental in the investigation that led to Shain’s downfall.
Shain’s past conviction for drug distribution in Idaho only added to her grim fate, ensuring she will spend at least a decade behind bars followed by seven years of supervised release.
