Washington, D.C. – In a grim turn of justice, 18-year-old Demonta King faced the consequences for his violent crimes. King, from Washington, D.C., was sentenced today in Superior Court for carjacking a taxicab driver at knifepoint in November 2024 and robbing another victim at gunpoint in August 2022. U.S. Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro announced the sentence.
King pleaded guilty on April 4, 2025, to one count of armed carjacking and one count of armed robbery. Superior Court Judge Jennifer Di Toro ordered King to serve fifteen years in prison followed by five years of supervised release, rejecting his Youth Rehabilitation Act request. The government had sought a twenty-two-year term.
The evidence revealed King’s brutal attack on November 18, 2024. Armed with a knife, he approached the taxicab driver and demanded all his belongings. After stabbing the victim, King fled with the taxi, phone, driver’s license, bank cards, and personal items. He was eventually stopped by police after a high-speed chase.
In another chilling incident on August 26, 2022, King robbed a different victim at gunpoint. The 16-year-old defendant struck the victim in the face with the firearm after taking his backpack and cell phone. King was prosecuted as an adult under Title 16.
U.S. Attorney Pirro and Metropolitan Police Chief Pamela Smith commended the Metropolitan Police Department and the U.S. Attorney’s Office for their diligent work on the case, acknowledging Assistant U.S. Attorney Jacob Greene for his prosecution efforts.
