Buffalo Man Pleads Guilty to Possessing Child Pornography

A Buffalo man has pleaded guilty to child pornography charges, according to officials. Alexander J. Weidner, 35, entered a guilty plea before U.S. District Judge Lawrence J. Vilardo, who is set to sentence him on July 29, 2025.

The charges against Weidner stem from an investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the New York State Police, and the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. On February 28, 2023, a federal search warrant was executed at Weidner’s residence, resulting in the seizure of two cellular telephones containing approximately 4,843 images and 371 videos of child pornography.

The disturbing images depicted minors under the age of 12 engaged in sexually explicit conduct. Additionally, investigators discovered that Weidner used the Session application to upload and share a video file containing child pornography with another Session user on two separate occasions.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Douglas A.C. Penrose stated that the case is a stark reminder of the severity of child pornography and the importance of protecting our children from exploitation. The maximum penalty for Weidner’s crime is 20 years in prison and a fine of $250,000.

The plea is a significant step in holding Weidner accountable for his actions. The investigation and subsequent charges demonstrate the commitment of law enforcement agencies to protecting our communities and bringing perpetrators to justice.

The sentencing hearing is scheduled to take place on July 29, 2025, at 9:30 a.m. before Judge Vilardo. The community can expect a thorough review of the case before a final decision is made.
