Crime Lands Houston Man Behind Bars

A Houston man has been charged with sex trafficking of a minor, a heinous crime that has left the community shaken. Alexander Joseph Johnson, 24, was arrested on August 6, 2013, based on a criminal complaint.

According to the complaint, the victim was forced to perform sex acts with strangers for money and turn that money over to Johnson. The victim was allegedly posted on online advertisements for commercial sex in Houston and Colorado, and was forced to earn $500 dollars an evening.

Johnson would allegedly ‘reward’ the victim by having sex with her when she met her quota. The allegations also include that Johnson provided the victim with marijuana and alcohol and only provided her food at his discretion.

The Houston FBI Innocence Lost Task Force, which includes agencies such as the Houston Police Department, investigated the case. Assistant U.S. Attorney Sherri L. Zack is prosecuting the case as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse.

If convicted, Johnson faces a minimum of 10 years and up to life in federal prison, as well as a maximum fine of $250,000. Upon completion of any prison term imposed, he also faces a maximum lifetime term of supervised release and will be required to register as a sex offender.

Johnson’s case serves as a stark reminder of the devastating effects of sex trafficking on its victims. The community is urging anyone with information to come forward and help bring an end to this heinous crime.

An indictment is a formal accusation of criminal conduct, not evidence. A defendant is presumed innocent unless convicted through due process of law.
