Mail Thief Turns Herself In: Alexandria Duncan Pleads Guilty in Buffalo
A shocking case of mail theft has come to an end in Buffalo, New York, as Alexandria Duncan, 23, pleaded guilty to her role in a conspiracy to steal mail. The plea is the latest development in a case that has left residents concerned about the safety of their mail.
According to Assistant U.S. Attorney Franz M. Wright, Duncan conspired with co-defendant Timothee S. Tidwell to steal mail from receptacles in Hamburg, NY, between October 9 and October 14, 2024. The duo used a postal arrow key to open various mailboxes in the Hamburg area and steal multiple mail items.
On October 14, 2024, law enforcement recovered opened and unopened mail addressed to other people from Duncan’s vehicle. The opened mail included checks from various individuals and businesses and totaled approximately $369,104.92.
The Village of Hamburg Police, under the direction of Chief Richard Schara, and the United States Postal Inspection Service, under the direction of Acting Inspector-in-Charge Nicholas J. Bucciarelli, Boston Division, led the investigation into Duncan and Tidwell’s scheme.
Duncan’s plea is a significant blow to the duo’s operation, which had been causing concern in the community. The case serves as a reminder of the importance of protecting one’s personal property, including mail.
Sentencing will be scheduled at a later date for Alexandria Duncan. The maximum penalty for her crime is five years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
